The airport was initially constructed in 1942/3 as a manufacturing plant for Douglas C-54s! By the 1950s Midway airport (now serving as a secondary airport) become to crowded and O'hare was then expanded and is now used as the main airport! It consists of four terminals and seven runways. Future modernization plans are about the construction of more runways in order to reach the number of eight, including extensions as well as removal of already existing runways!
